What is a Clinical Nurse Specialist?
A clinical nurse specialist is one of four advanced practice nurses recognized by boards of nursing, with the other three being nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, and nurse anesthetist. The clinical nurse specialist applies evidence based research findings to improve outcomes in patient outcomes. Most clinical nurse specialists focus on a specialty population such as a patient care area in the hospital or patients with a chronic disease such as diabetes.
